12 (1 x 12) 750ml
Château Calon Ségur is a Third Growth of Saint-Estèphe, the northernmost of the great Médoc estates, its label bearing the heart of the Marquis de Ségur. 2009 was a great, ripe and opulent Bordeaux vintage. Lisa Perrotti-Brown from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 96, Jancis Robinson gave it 16.5 out of 20, and Neal Martin from Vinous gave it a rating of 93.

Critics Ratings

"Tasted blind. Mid crimson. Light nose. Rather dilute. Not typical for the vintage. Over-produced? Rather drying, sandy, light tannins on the end. This bottle was thought to be mildly TCA-affected but there was no duplicate." - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Mar 2019)

"The 2009 Calon-Ségur is deep garnet in color and opens with a beautiful fragrance of redcurrant preserves, cassis, black cherry compote and red roses plus nuances of cigar box and cinnamon stick. Medium-bodied and wonderfully elegant in the mouth, it has a compelling line of very ripe, fine-grained tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the fragrant layers, finishing long and perfumed." - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Mar 2019)

"The 2009 Calon Ségur offers powerful black fruit, melted road tar, tobacco and pencil shaving scents, here with a touch of wild mint that surfaces after 15-20 minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly grainy texture. This solid Saint-Estèphe is shaking off the baby fat of that vintage and is more reserved than the previous bottle encountered four years ago. But I appreciate the edginess of the finish. Give it a couple more years. Tasted at the private room at Noble Rot Soho." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Apr 2023)
