Notes
The present lot was created for the first South African screening of the complete 9 Drawings for Projection, William Kentridge's series of animated short films set in Johannesburg and made over the course of fourteen years.
The screening took place at the Old Fort on Constitution Hill, once the site of a prison that held political prisoners including Nelson Mandela, and now home to the Constitutional Court. Across the series, Kentridge uses his signature charcoal erasure technique to trace the shifting socio-political landscape of Johannesburg.
