Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre 2015

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Chablis 1er Cru Montee de Tonnerre 2015
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Domaine William Fèvre, founded in 1959 and the largest holder of Chablis Grand Cru, is one of the appellation's benchmark estates, its wines made since 1998 by Didier Séguier in a pure, precise style that favours older oak to let the Kimmeridgian terroir speak. Montée de Tonnerre, on the right bank beside the Grands Crus, is regarded as one of the greatest Chablis Premier Crus. 2015 was a warm, ripe Chablis vintage giving generous, rounded whites. Stephen Tanzer from Vinous gave it a rating of 91+, and Neal Martin from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 90.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Pale, green-tinged yellow. Strongly mineral-driven aromas of lime, lemon cake icing and crushed stone. Very tightly wound, in fact almost austere for the year, offering classic citrus, menthol and mineral flavors that are pure and sharply delineated but not yet expansive. Harmonious acidity and a note of pineapple give this very promising wine a bracing, focused finish." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91+/100 (Aug 2017)

"The 2015 Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre has a light granite, slightly smoky bouquet that is still broody, just as it showed out of barrel last year. The palate is balanced with a light sea influence on the entry, a touch of Golden Delicious apples and fresh pear with a precise, if slightly short, finish." - Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Aug 2017)
