Chablis 2015

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Chablis 2015
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Domaine William Fèvre, founded in 1959 and the largest holder of Chablis Grand Cru, is one of the appellation's benchmark estates, its wines made since 1998 by Didier Séguier in a pure, precise style that favours older oak to let the Kimmeridgian terroir speak. This is its village Chablis, a small portion barrel-fermented in older oak. 2015 was a warm, ripe Chablis vintage giving generous, rounded whites. Julia Harding MW from JancisRobinson.com gave it 16.5 out of 20, and Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 91.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Light notes of citrus and cedar, more open and expressive than some. With the rounded texture of that oak-fermented portion determining the overall style though there is no oak flavour. Gentle and creamy but still very fresh on the longish finish." - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2017)

"A focused, lemon-, apple- and melon-flavored version, with accents of seashore and stone. Leaves a mouthwatering finish that lingers well, echoing citrus and stone elements." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2017)
