Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon

Macon Milly-Lamartine 2014

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Macon Milly-Lamartine 2014
4 (1 x 4) 750ml
Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon is the Mâconnais estate founded in 1999 by Dominique Lafon of the celebrated Domaine des Comtes Lafon, farmed biodynamically and credited with helping revive the region. Mâcon Milly-Lamartine comes from around the estate's home village in the southern Mâconnais. 2014 was a benchmark white Burgundy vintage of ripe fruit and vivid tension. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 16 out of 20 and Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 90, with Allen Meadows also reviewing it for Burghound.com.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Tasted after Le Montrachet so pretty tricky! Bottled in summer 2015. Light and easy." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Jan 2016)

"Smoke and flint aromas lead off, backed up by ripe peach, apple and lemon fruit. This is rich, with fine acidity imparting focus and length. The mineral element returns on the finish." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Jun 2016)

"This expressive effort possesses even more citrus character with its more elegant array of floral and various white orchard fruit scents. Once again there is good vibrancy to the intense and attractively delineated middle weight flavors that also terminate in a clean, dry and overtly citrus-inflected finale." - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (Oct 2015)
