Long Depaquit Chablis Le Clos 2019

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Long Depaquit Chablis Le Clos 2019
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Domaine Long-Depaquit is the Chablis estate of the historic house Albert Bichot, run from an eighteenth-century château in the town and best known for the La Moutonne monopole. Its holdings extend across the grands crus, and Les Clos is the largest and most celebrated of them, a steep, powerful and long-ageing site. 2019 was a warm, dry, frost-reduced Chablis vintage of small yields, giving unusually rich, ripe wines that still kept freshness and cut. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 16.5++ out of 20, and Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 92.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

Critics Ratings

"Intense, lightly smoky nose and convincing satin texture. A rich Chablis with some textural influences and some green-fruit character. This is clearly a Chablis Grand Cru. Notable freshness. Promisingly racy as well as showing the richness of 2019. But an atypical Chablis." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5++/20 (Dec 2020)

"Round and intense, this evokes peach, apple, lemon and mineral aromas and flavors. A light smoky element lingers on the finish, with fine harmony and length." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Sep 2021)
