Robert Chevillon

Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2015

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Cailles 2015
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Domaine Robert Chevillon is one of the benchmark estates of Nuits-Saint-Georges, run by brothers Denis and Bertrand Chevillon, farming old vines across many of the appellation's greatest Premier Crus. Les Cailles is one of the estate's finest Premier Crus, a silky, elegant cru in the heart of the Nuits slope. 2015 was an outstanding, warm and ripe Côte de Nuits vintage of rich, concentrated and ageworthy reds. Neal Martin from Vinous gave it a rating of 93, and Allen Meadows from Burghound.com gave it a rating of 94.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"The 2015 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Cailles 1er Cru has a lovely bouquet, slightly herbal at first but then the intensity of fruit kicks in after five minutes. The palate has very fine structure, quite strict tannin with a tightly wound but very pure and sustained finish. Tons of potential but it needs a lot of time. Tasted at the domaine." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93/100 (Oct 2018)

"An elegant and attractively complex nose combines notes of plum, anise, sandalwood, warm earth and various wild dark berries. There is first-rate density to the focused and unusually powerful flavors that deliver simply huge length on the impeccably well-balanced finale. As it virtually always is chez Chevillon, this is a very classy effort. If you can find it, buy it." - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 94/100 (Jan 2018)
