Louis Jadot

Cote de Nuits Villages Le Vaucrain 2016

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Cote de Nuits Villages Le Vaucrain 2016
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Maison Louis Jadot, founded in Beaune in 1859, is one of Burgundy’s most respected houses and domaines, with vineyards across the Côte d’Or made in a classic, ageworthy style. Le Vaucrain is a Jadot parcel of Côte de Nuits-Villages at Comblanchien, abutting Mugnier’s Clos de la Maréchale, whose superior site lets it punch well above its village rank. The 2016 was an excellent, classic Côte de Nuits vintage, frost-reduced but pure and fresh. Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 90, and William Kelley from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 90.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“A rich, black cherry-flavored red, gaining support from tangy acidity and light tannins. Earth, tar and spice flavors add depth as this cruises to a fine finish.” - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (May 2019)

“Tasted from bottle, the 2016 Côte de Nuits-Villages Le Vaucrain (Domaine Louis Jadot) is showing very well indeed, opening in the glass with a classic bouquet of earthy cassis, wild plum and licorice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, with a deep core of ripe but vibrant fruit, succulent acids and excellent concentration, framed by fine but chalky tannins that are classic Comblanchien. This parcel abuts Mugnier’s Clos de la Maréchale, which is classified as a Nuits-Saint-Georges premier cru, and its superior location surely accounts for why this punches so far above its weight.” - William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Apr 2019)
