Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

Critics Ratings

Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Clos de la Mousse 2017
"The deep clay soils inside this four-walled clos mean that this 3.36ha terroir never suffers in hot years like 2017, retaining sufficient moisture for the vines. This stylish, aromatic, violet-scented Pinot is wonderfully fresh and charming, with subtle whole-bunch characters and deftly applied 20% new wood. Drinking Window: 2022 - 2027." - Tim Atkin MW, 93/100 (Nov 2018)

"The 2017 Beaune Clos de la Mousse 1er Cru comes from a 3.36-hectare terraced monopole, located on dense red clay, that suffers little dryness and tends to retard maturation of the fruit. This is showing just a little reduction on the nose, yet there is plenty of juicy red berry fruit laced with brown spices here that feels well defined. The poised, focused palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a caressing, almost Vosne-like finish that is utterly seductive. This comes recommended. Drinking Window: 2020 - 2034." - Neal Martin, 90 - 92/100 (Jan 2019)

"Fragrant cherry and redcurrant fruit – easy and generous and rich, with well-managed oak smokiness on the palate and length. Very nicely done." - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2019)

Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir La Vignée 2017
"Surprising ripeness for Bourgogne level (a good demonstration of the heat in 2017), with crisp crunchy redcurrant fruit and good balance. Good, reliable, typical." - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com (Jan 2019)

Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune Les Teurons 2017
"The 2017 Beaune Les Teurons 1er Cru comes from the domaine's 2.31-hectare block. It has a slightly pinched bouquet of blackberry and raspberry fruit, perhaps not as charming as the Clos de la Mousse at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, well-judged acidity and nicely integrated oak (25% new), and quite fresh with a touch of cassis on the aftertaste. I suspect that this will turn into a very fine Les Teurons, but the aromatics need time." - Neal Martin, Vinous (Oct 2018)

"Floral, sandalwood and mineral aromas and flavors are distinctive, while a core of cherry fruit lurks underneath. This red is silky and concentrated, yet remains elegant and classy, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, spice and mineral." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Mar 2020)

Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune-Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus 2017
"Smoky spice, ripe cherry fruit and firm, tight tannic structure." - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5+/20 (Jan 2019)

"The 2017 Beaune Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jésus 1er Cru has a brisk, herbaceous nose with transparent red berry fruit, damp moss and light wild mushroom scents. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, a fine bead of acidity, a little dry around the edges with a touch of bell pepper towards the finish. Fine." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (May 2026
