Marquis d'Angerville

Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet 2010

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Volnay 1er Cru Fremiet 2010
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is one of Volnay's most iconic estates, a domaine-bottling pioneer since the 1920s and biodynamic since 2006, celebrated for pure, precise, minimalist reds. Fremiet is a marly-limestone Premier Cru at the northern edge of Volnay towards Pommard, structured yet fruited with a saline edge. 2010 is a classic Côte de Beaune vintage of vivid fruit, fine freshness and firm, well-knit tannins built to age. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 17 out of 20, Bruce Sanderson from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 92, and Stephen Tanzer from Vinous gave it a rating of 91.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Bright crimson. Real texture and race here on the nose. Amazingly pure. Straight down the line immediate impact. Just the merest whiff of mossiness. Dry finish. Very fresh. Marked acidity." - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Mar 2012)

"The floral, cherry and pomegranate flavors are amplified by vivid acidity in this vibrant, elegant red, which is intense, with dense yet refined tannins and a finish that evokes mineral and pepper accents." - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Jun 2013)

"Good bright, deep red. Musky, superripe aromas of jammy black fruits and roasted herbs. Round, sweet and superripe but still fresh in spite of its chocolatey quality. Finishes with powerful, chewy tannins that cut off the fruit today. This wine will need time to harmonize in bottle." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91/100 (Mar 2013)
