Dominio de Pingus

PSI 2010

Spain
About the Session

Rioja anchors the Spanish session with a depth and breadth that rewards both traditionalists and modern-style enthusiasts. La Rioja Alta is the most extensively represented producer, with Gran Reserva 904 spanning multiple vintages and formats, alongside the classic Reservas - Viña Ardanza, Viña Alberdi, and Viña Arana. Beyond Rioja, Sierra Cantabria delivers some of the most sought-after names in the sale. Their single-vineyard Amancio across 2002 and 2007, the Finca El Bosque, and the Colección Privada 2003 represent the very top of the Rioja hierarchy.

About this Item

PSI 2010
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Founded in 1995 by Danish oenologist Peter Sisseck in Ribera del Duero, Dominio de Pingus earned instant global acclaim from its debut vintage of old-vine Tempranillo, with Robert Parker declaring it one of the greatest young red wines he had ever tasted. PSI is a separate collaborative project launched in 2007 with local grape growers across the region, aimed at preserving old Tinto Fino vines and promoting organic viticulture; named after Sisseck's initials and the Greek letter Psi, it is more approachable than Pingus or Flor de Pingus while sharing the same philosophy of minimal intervention. The 2010 is a vibrant, precise expression from a concentrated and impressive Ribera del Duero vintage. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 17 out of 20, and Josh Raynolds from Vinous gave it a rating of 92.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

“Immediately classy nose. Lovely sweet palate entry and no excess of anything. Already accessible but with the promise of more complexity to come. Really fresh, slightly vegy finish. Long.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Nov 2014)

“Bright purple. Pungent, expressive scents of cherry and dark berries, dried flowers and incense. Sappy cherry and cassis flavors are braced by tangy acidity and gain sweetness with air. Richer on the finish, with its resounding notes of cherry compote and Asian spices. This vibrant wine drinks very easily right now.” - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100 (Sep 2012)
