Dry Red 1990

Rustenberg is one of the oldest and most historically significant wine estates in South Africa, with a winemaking history stretching back to 1892 on its farm in the Simonsberg ward of Stellenbosch. The Dry Red, produced across several decades as the estate's benchmark red blend, has become a genuine Cape classic. Made by Cabernet specialist Etienne le Riche, the Rustenberg reds from this era contained a good helping of Cinsault in the blends with Cabernet Sauvignon, driving a style of classic, elegant wines unique to the Cape that inspired the generation to follow. Situated on the south-western slopes of Simonsberg, the historic terroir of Rustenberg is ideally suited to the production of world class Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 1990 vintage was one of the most celebrated in South African red wine history, a season of outstanding natural balance, measured ripeness and fine structure that produces wines built for the cellar. Now more than three decades old and professionally recorked by Strauss & Co and Amorim under argon gas protection, with reserve wine from the same vintage used for topping, these bottles represent a genuinely rare opportunity to experience a landmark Cape red at full maturity. This was done under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks and Strauss & Co Fine wine Specialists Higgo Jacobs and Roland Peens, assuring provenance, quality and long life.
