About this Item
Produced from Rustenberg's Simonsberg farm at a time when the estate was already among the Cape's most admired, the 1984 Dry Red has spent more than forty years developing the complex secondary aromas of mature Stellenbosch Cabernet: dried tobacco, forest floor, faded red fruits and warm cedar spice. Made by Cabernet specialist Etienne le Riche, the Rustenberg reds from this era contained a good helping of Cinsault in the blends with Cabernet Sauvignon, driving a style of classic, elegant wines unique to the Cape that inspired the generation to follow.
This wine has been checked and re-corked by Amorim, under the protection of an argon gas blanket, with each opened bottle being topped up with reserve wine from the same vintage, recorked, and resealed. This was done under the supervision of a technical team from Amorim Corks and Strauss & Co Fine wine Specialists Higgo Jacobs and Roland Peens, assuring provenance, quality and long life. The Seal code on the neck of the bottle can be traced on Amorim Recorking Directory

Critics Ratings
'The Dry Red was typically 2 thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and 1 third Cinsaut. Expecting lots of Cinsaut character, it delivers with typical light, red fruit yet savoury complexity. Quite lean, with toasted nuts, forest floor, perfume and florals. Almost Burgundian! Fresh and lively with a delicate finish. Should keep longer!' - Roland Peens, 92/100 (March 2026 – Tasted at recorking.)
