The 2021 vintage produced wines of exceptional luminosity and tightly wound mineral precision across the Western Cape, a season of cool complexity and extended development that allowed the Alheits' most concentrated single-vineyard expressions to show their full depth. Alheit Vineyards' 2021 Fire by Night earned 98 points from Tim Atkin MW and 17+/20 from Jancis Robinson MW. Fire by Night is drawn from the Huilkrans parcel on the Oudam Farm in the Citrusdal Mountain ward, a high-altitude site of extraordinary isolation where ancient bushvine Chenin Blanc grown on decomposed sandstone soils produces a wine of incandescent mineral tension, phenolic grip and the kind of focused, reductive complexity that speaks directly of its singular terroir. The wine is wild-fermented in old 300-litre barrels and aged on the lees with zero additions.
