Alheit Vineyards Nautical Dawn 2018
'Nautical Dawn is a reference to the location of this Firgrove vineyard, very close to False Bay. Picked early, despite its maritime influence, it's grown on coastal granite and has a salty, almost seaweedy note, layers of beeswax, lanolin and baking yeast, subtle oak and vibrant acidity. 2021-28' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 96/100
Alheit Vineyards Magentic North 2018
'Basie van Lill, one of the Cape's greatest growers, provided the grapes for the 1,042 bottles of this Citrusdal Mountain Chenin Blanc, grown at 550 metres and cooled by afternoon breezes. With a pH of 3.1, despite almost completing a full malolactic fermentation, this is racy, pure and almost supernaturally focused with incredible palate length. 2021-33' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 98/100
'Herbal where the Huilkrans is spicy, more green fruited. The acid seems higher here because the fruit is less mouth-filling but there is real elegance and finesse. Juicy, mouth-watering persistence.' - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Sep 2019)
Alheit Vineyards Fire by Night 2018
'Fire by Night comes from a farm that Chris Alheit acquired in August 2019, which secures the source of this impressive Chenin. Made with fruit from a cooler, morning sun-facing parcel, it shows the taut, almost austere minerality that's a feature of the Nuwedam farm, layers of spice, lees and subtle oak and lovely precision. 2021-30' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 94/100
Alheit Vineyards Huilkrans 2018
'Like Magnetic North, this stunning Chenin also comes from the Skurfberg, albeit from Joshua Visser's rather than Basie van Lill's farm. Grown at 620 metres, dry farmed and aged on its lees in concrete eggs, it's another breathtaking white from Chris Alheit with understated power and palate-energising minerality. 2021-32' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 97/100
Alheit Vineyards La Colline Vineyard 2018
'Everyone that buys grapes from Anton Roux's 1936 Franschhoek Vineyard makes an exceptional wine with them. Combining Semillon and small amounts of Semillon Gris, this is a herbal, waxy, multi-layered delight with notes of camomile and green tea and dense, focused flavours. 2022-28' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 96/100
'Pale gold. Nutty almond oak notes, with brown spices (Sémillon Gris?). Some reductive tones too. Ripe lemon and lemon curd. Full-bodied, with a rich but distinctly saline and dusty, savoury palate. Salinity supports its freshness. Long, fine and youthful.' - Tim Jackson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Aug 2021)
