About this Item
The 2018 vintage produced a Tin Soldier of considerable textural complexity and challenging, tannic depth, the drought year's concentrated Swartland fruit meeting the phenolic grip of extended skin contact to produce a wine of dark, exotic character. Thorne & Daughters' 2018 Tin Soldier earned 94 points from Tim Atkin MW and 95 points from Christian Eedes at Winemag.co.za.

Critics Ratings
'Tin Soldier comes from the Schreiber family's vineyard on the Paardeberg and is entirely made with rare Semillon Gris. Just over two-thirds of the wine spends ten days on skins, producing a white with a bronze pink colour that's complex, challenging and a little tannic with pastry, quince and orange marmalade notes and tangy minerality. Drink 2020-26.' – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 94/100
'From a six-year-old vineyard of Semillon Gris established using material from the Paper Kite site. 70% skin fermented for some 10 days and 30% whole-bunch pressed. A gorgeous and exotic nose of floral perfume (frangipani, honeysuckle), table grape, papaya and a whiff of marmalade. Great fruit concentration, coated acidity and some light grip to the finish. Layers of flavour and great length.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100 (Jun 2019)
