Thorne & Daughters
Cat's Cradle 2017
Cape Heritage
About the SessionA selection of South Africa’s finest wines, inspired by our rich wine heritage and the unique character of the Cape Winelands. Chenin Blanc is celebrated for its remarkable versatility, producing an exceptional range of wine styles, particularly in South Africa, home to the oldest Chenin Blanc vines in the world. These historic vineyards continue to produce wines of great diversity, elegance, and ageing potential. The Pinotage selection showcases leading producers, all of whom have become consistent flag bearers for this proudly South African variety.
About this Item
The 2017 vintage was shaped by severe drought on the Paardeberg, concentrating these old vines' fruit to unusual intensity but also introducing the light phenolic bitterness typical of water stressed old dryland bush vines. Thorne & Daughters' 2017 Cat's Cradle earned 91 points from Tim Atkin MW in his 2018 SA Special Report.

‘One of two new wines in John Seccombe’s range, this bone dry Chenin comes from a 1976 bush vine vineyard on the Paardeberg. There’s a slight bitterness from drought stress here, but the underlying flavours marry flavours of patisserie with green apple. 2019-23’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 91/100
