each centred by the crowned coat of arms of Amsterdam, the wings inscribed with the VOC stamp for Amsterdam, each lacking an eye

Literature
It is possible that these had one end deliberately removed, modifying them to fit a newer pattern of musket, as seen in other examples of side plates found near or on the wreck site of the Rooswijk, a Dutch East India Company vessel that sank off the coast of the treacherous Goodwin Sands Kent, England, in January 1740.
