About this Item
Two VOC musket side escutcheon plates, Amsterdam, c.1700-1743
Literature
It is possible that these had one end deliberately removed, modifying them to fit a newer pattern of musket, as seen in other examples of side plates found near or on the wreck site of the Rooswijk, a Dutch East India Company vessel that sank off the coast of the treacherous Goodwin Sands Kent, England, in January 1740.
