the rectangular top above a fall-front enclosing an oak-lined interior fitted with drawers and open compartments, above four long graduated linen-fold drawers, raised on bracket feet, fitted with brass drop handles and escutcheons

Notes
The bureau developed in the late seventeenth century when literacy, commerce and personal correspondence expanded rapidly in England. Fitted interiors became increasingly elaborate, including features such as small drawers, pigeonholes, secret compartments and sliding well covers.
