Notes

Vasundharā takes its name from the Sanskrit term for “the one who holds the earth,” a word often associated with the grounding force beneath the body in yogic philosophy. Sometimes referred to as the Earth Star Chakra, this subtle point is understood as a place of anchoring — a quiet gravity that connects us to land, lineage, and the steadying rhythms of the natural world. Woven from vintage fine wool, Vasundharā is a study in softness and restraint. Its surface appears understated at first glance, yet it reveals delicate shifts in tone and texture that echo geological strata, weather patterns, and the slow movement of time. The work embodies Leila’s ongoing interest in repetition, natural pattern, and the meditative qualities of handmaking. In this piece, grounding is not a concept but a felt experience: a gentle invitation to pause, to settle, and to notice the subtle conversation between material, body, and earth.
