About this Item
Notes
The textile landscape of everyday life.
Inspired by old TV shows. A battery radio on the mantelpiece with cords falling freely down the wall. The everyday rituals of watching and the chat that carries through as the happenings from “laas nag se Noot vir Noot' get retold, twisted and passed on.
This piece calls for the viewer to kyk net reg directly translated to look properly. You will find numerous moments in a piece that seem naive and easy to read until you stop and examine the details in these two tapestries woven on separate panels - the skill of the weaver to weave letters that fit together: the delicate stitch details of the radio. What was woven and what was embellished later?
The wire frame, the eye, the noisy movement of the TV crackling into signal, all caught up in the textile landscape of everyday life and how remarkable these moments are if we just stop and look.
This tapestry was made collectively by women artisans in the Frances vH Mohair studio.
