About this Item
Notes
Most early Cape houses had no fireplace except in the kitchen, the only way of keeping warm in the other rooms of the house was to sit with one's feet resting on a footwarmer.
A pan or tessie filled with hot coals was inserted into the box and the hot air rose through the perforated top.
