the hinged rectangular top enclosing a vacant interior, above tapering sides, the front fitted with iron strap hinges with central hasp, carrying handles to the front and reverse, raised on later feet

Notes
Traditionally used for storage and transportation of domestic goods, the kist was one of the most functional and enduring forms of Cape furniture.
