Notes

Rodney Band was born in South Africa and grew up in Israel. He specializes in creating large sculptural bowls hand-hewn from carefully sourced logs which are characterized by unique colour and character.

Band describes this work as having been made from a naturally shaped wild olive log, partially turned on a lathe and partially sculpted by hand. The form retains a sense of the original timber, with its height, grain and organic shape informing the final design. Decorative African blackwood inlay and copper button elements have been added to enhance the surface and emphasise the uniqueness of the piece.

The tall bowl is carved from wild olive wood, with a natural organic form and polished surface. The body is decorated with African blackwood inlay and inset copper button details.
