Notes
Johannes Georg Blatter is best known for his depictions of rural Swiss life, with particular emphasis on Toggenburg traditions, landscapes, and pastoral scenes. He often worked in gouache, oil, and on metal, and his subject matter includes Alpaufzug (horned cattle being led up the alpine pastures), farm interiors, and scenes with vernacular architecture. Blatter’s works continue to appear in various auctions, and he holds a place in collections and among connoisseurs of regional Swiss painting.
