'As well as making the Cape's best Pinotage at Kanonkop, Abrie Beeslaar also produces this remarkable red under his own label. In just two vintages, it has established itself close to the summit of South African red winemaking. Less oaky than the Kanonkop Black Label, but with the same perfume, silky tannins and palate length. This is finer than the 2012, but with slightly less ageing potential.'- Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 96/100
'As polished a pinotage as you'll find from man responsible for Kanonkop versions. Beeslaar's own is very different, 2013 tilting towards pinot noir's elegance, suppleness, replete with ripe & fresh cherry, raspberry flavours. Structured & oaked (18 months, 50% new French) for long ageing, as was maiden 2012.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2013, 5*, 90/100
'On the nose, red cherries and plums plus barrel-derived notes of vanilla and spice. The fruit expression really is lovely but the acidity seems quite moderate and the tannins fine and soft.Beeslaar has obviously taken great care with the extraction and the wine has a particularly creamy texture which will appeal to many but I find a little too plush. Make no mistake, however, this remains a very suave and sophisticated offering.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 92/100
