'Like many of Bernhard Bredell's best vineyard blocks, Féniks is influenced by the proximity of False Bay. Slightly riper than the 2018, but this is still a light-bodied style of Pinotage from a brilliant young winemaker. ‘The 2019 Féniks comes from the lower slopes on sandy, granite/silica soils that is cropped low at 22hl/ha. It includes 70% whole bunch and is aged on the lees for 15 months. It has a fabulous nose with expressive brambly red fruit, subtle garrigues and wilted rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good acidity, quite compact in the middle with gentle grip on the finish. Maybe it does not quite match the aromatics, but this is a lovely Pinotage that is difficult to resist. 2023-2033’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (Aug 2022)
