About this Item

2019 Feniks
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
A unique old Pinotage single vineyard that was planted in 1976. Dry-farmed bushvines rooted in coarse sandy decomposed granite soils high in silica. This also happens to be South Africa's closest Pinotage to the Ocean. At the foot of Sinai Hill, southern Stellenbosch. Low-yielding vines with uniquely small grape clusters.

Critics Ratings

'Like many of Bernhard Bredell's best vineyard blocks, Féniks is influenced by the proximity of False Bay. Slightly riper than the 2018, but this is still a light-bodied style of Pinotage from a brilliant young winemaker. Deeply coloured, intense and serious, with rose petal and patisserie notes and a fresh, tangy finish.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 94/100

‘The 2019 Féniks comes from the lower slopes on sandy, granite/silica soils that is cropped low at 22hl/ha. It includes 70% whole bunch and is aged on the lees for 15 months. It has a fabulous nose with expressive brambly red fruit, subtle garrigues and wilted rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good acidity, quite compact in the middle with gentle grip on the finish. Maybe it does not quite match the aromatics, but this is a lovely Pinotage that is difficult to resist. 2023-2033’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (Aug 2022)
