The brand pioneered breakthroughs such as the first waterproof wristwatch, the Oyster (1926), and the self-winding Perpetual rotor (1931), setting new standards in horology. Over the decades, Rolex has introduced iconic models like the Submariner, Daytona, and Day-Date, each tied to exploration, sport, and prestige. Notably, Rolex is owned by the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, a charitable trust, which means its profits support philanthropy and social causes. Today, Rolex is known not only as one of the leaders in watchmaking but also as a cultural and charitable icon, symbolising precision, durability, and success. The "MK2" designation is used to differentiate between minor printing and aesthetic variations on the dial, with the MK2 version being known for a "smudged" crown and the "D" and "W" in "Dweller" touching.
