About this Item
Notes
The discovery of the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum led to the revival of simplicity and classical form throughout Europe. This new Neo-classical style which was introduced to the Cape by French troops in the late 18th century, replaced the frivolity and exuberance of the Rococo style with clean straight lines.
Tables such as this one constructed entirely of stinkwood are relatively rare.
