A Cape stinkwood and yellowwood peg-top table, late 18th century
the three-plank rectangular top above a moulded frieze, on notched rectangular-fluted and tapering square-section legs, 68cm high, 160cm wide, 89,5cm deep
Notes
This piece is known as a ' peg-top' table, indicating that the top of the table is attached to the base by means of two runners which are held to the skirt by removable pegs. This method of construction was used extensively during the late 18th century and into the early 19th century.
