A Chinese Export black lacquer and gilt tea caddy, 19th century
the molded octagonal hinged cover above conforming concave sided form, decorated to the exterior with gilded figural garden scenes, the interior fitted with a pair of pewter caddies complete with covers and bone finial, carrying handles to the sides, raised on carved giltwood feet, 18cm high, 33cm wide, 25cm deep

During the 18th century in England, tea caddies were made in a great variety of materials such as wood, silver, porcelain, pewter, and tortoiseshell. The tea caddy was fitted with a lock and key as it was an expensive commodity.
