About this Item
Boekenhoutskloof was established in 1776 and since it’s modern era makeover in 1993 it has been under the guidance of maverick spirit, Marc Kent. Unafraid to experiment with the unconventional, Marc is the chief winemaker and driving force behind the dynamic farm, co-founded by the similarly innovative late Tim Rands.
Critics Ratings
‘Bright, dark ruby-red. Wild aromas of blackberry, blueberry, violet and aromatic herbs. Densely packed but at the same time delineated and tactile, with dark berry, spice and violet flavors carrying through a firmly tannic, very long finish. This lovely young Syrah shows real personality and concentration, not to mention energy and lift. But it's still quite youthfully unevolved and worth holding for a few years.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92/100 (Mar 2017)
‘Brush of violet-tinged fynbos on bold 2014 from Swartland & Wellington. Complex, layered, rich & dark-fruited with tannin squeeze from 18 months older oak (chiefly 2,500L Austrian foudre, some smaller barrels). Natural ferment & portion whole bunches.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
‘The 2014 Syrah is the last vintage that contains fruit from Wellington; this is 60% Porseleinberg and 40% Wellington, whereas 2015 will be W.O Swartland. It includes 25% whole bunch fruit and after pressing is transferred into 600-liter and 2,500-liter Stockinger foudres. Now this has an attractive bouquet with raspberry, wilted violet and subtle cassis aromas that unfurl gradually in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, a fine line of acidity, well balanced with good structure towards the finish, a touch of sour lemon right on the aftertaste. Very fine.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (Apr 2017)
