About this Item
The wines of Terre Nere (‘Black Earth’) are produced on the northern, volcanic slopes of Mount Etna. Monica Larner, from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, wrote, ‘Marco De Grazie’s wines helped to put Etna on the enological map in the first place and his winemaking consistency is one of the most important guarantees for the future of this up-and-coming wine region.’ The circular region, a DOC since 1968, around the foothills of Mount Etna, is home to a multitude of soils and microclimates. A shape-shifter terroir, if you will, the organic practices, volcanic soils and extraordinary elevation, result in long-ageing and entirely unique wines.
Critics Ratings
‘Red berry, menthol, grilled sage, leather and a whiff of oak lead the nose. The palate boasts a weightless concentration, offering raspberry compote, oak-driven spice, white pepper, licorice and a mineral vein that weave together around a backbone of fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. Drink 2019–2029.’ - Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Sept 2016)
‘Very deep and rich and round. Massive broad stuff. Rich and tense. But it seems much richer and deeper than the other Terre Nere wines tasted at the same time.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (May 2016)
