About this Item
The GD Vajra estate is named after Giuseppe Domenico Vajra who founded the estate in 1972. Located in the highest village of Barolo, the vineyards are run by Giuseppe's son Aldo and his family, whose warmth and friendliness are intoxicating. The vineyards sit at high altitudes of up to 400 metres, creating thermal changes which ripen the fruit slowly and allow the concentration of noble and delicate aromas. GD Vajra have been pioneers of organic farming since inception and their broadly traditional winemaking style produces fresh and aromatic wines.

Critics Ratings
‘Vajra's 2004 Barolo Bricco delle Viole has put on a bit of weight in bottle, yet retains all of the signatures, notably the energy and precision that are so typical of this site in the Vergne sub-zone of Barolo, one of the highest in the entire production zone. Sweet floral notes meld into spices, mint and dark red cherries. Ethereal and beautifully perfumed through to the finish, the 2004 is absolutely gorgeous today.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 94/100 (May 2015)
‘Fairly deep ruby with orange rim. Very pretty nose of cherry fruit and spice and with lifted freshness. Only the beginning of tertiary aromas with a little touch of leather. Very elegant palate with high acidity and massive, fine tannin. Very youthful and long with powerful tannin.’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Sept 2012)
