As the flagship red states, Rust en Vrede dates back to 1694 and is today owned by Jean Engelbrecht. The fine Helderberg terroir produces concentrated and highly celebrated reds. Rust en Vrede was chosen by President Nelson Mandela to serve at the Nobel Peace Prize dinner. 2001 was a stellar vintage under winemaker Louis Strydom and for the fourth consecutive year, Rust en Vrede made the Top 100 Wines of the World list compiled by US publication Wine Spectator.
