Featured Artist

Christopher Tugwell

Born in Durban in 1938, Christopher Tugwell received private art tutoring during his childhood, but he was never formally trained. At the age of 20, he moved to Johannesburg with the aim of becoming a painter. He eventually settled in Pretoria, where he opened the Chris Tugwell Art Gallery and established himself as an artist. Tugwell's paintings, which he mainly produced in oil, feature seascapes and expansive landscapes, often with cattle. His works are also noted for his expressive depiction of the sky, especially the cloud formations.
