Abrie Beeslaar - Kanonkop - Cabernet Sauvignon 2001

This excellent vintage was cultivated from 30-year-old vines, with no irrigation and a 5-wire hedge trellis. The decomposed granite/Hutton soil adds to its character by retaining water.

The wine was vinified in open fermenters at 29ºC for 4-5 days and underwent manual cap punching every hour. Afterwards, it was matured in 225 litre French Nevers oak barrels for 25 months, with 50% new and 50% second fill. This full-bodied wine boasts a deep red colour, with nutty and berry flavours that exhibit classic style and a complex palate, leading to a dry finish.
