"The 2016 Syrah was another that showed minor reduction. Blackberry, liquorice, melted tar and a touch of wild mint are well defined on the nose, which gains clarity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and gentle grip, off-dry in style with a slightly meaty, medicinal finish. This is probably at its peak but will cruise there for some time. Very fine. "The 2016 Swartland Syrah is unmistakable with a dark purple core and black pepper on the nose with mineral-driven, black-fruited concentration and a soft, smoky presence. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and purely Syrah with some oak influences and soft minerality on the back end, followed by a clean, precise and long finish.
