About this Item

Vin de Constance 2015
6 (1 x 6) 500ml
Klein Constantia is the historic Constantia estate south of Cape Town, and Vin de Constance is its revival of the legendary eighteenth-century sweet Muscat de Frontignan once prized by Napoleon and the courts of Europe. Unfortified and naturally sweet, made from late-harvested, partly raisined Muscat and bottled in its distinctive flacon, it is South Africa's most celebrated dessert wine. The 2015, made during the drought years, was Tim Atkin's Overall Sweet Wine of the Year. Tim Atkin MW scored it 98 in his South Africa Special Report 2018, Anthony Mueller from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 94, and Neal Martin from Vinous gave it a rating of 93+.

Critics Ratings

"Even better than the 2014 release, and that was a spectacular sweet wine, the 2015 Vin de Constance is one of the greatest ever vintages of this iconic sticky. More Barsac than Sauternes in terms of weight, it's fresh and refined, a bit like the 2012, with citrus and orange zest balancing the 172 grams of sugar. The oak is perfectly judged, the length and freshness things of wonder." - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 98/100 (Sep 2018)

"A pale gold color, the 2015 Vin de Constance Natural Sweet Wine has strong, precise aromas of golden raisins and orange marmalade. The palate shows great balance between sweetness, alcohol and acid and is sweet but not as overly sweet as many other sticky wines. Wow, this is delicate with generous floral tones and is really delicious. The grapes were harvested in different tries to select fresher berries earlier at the beginning of the harvest in order to maintain acidity levels in the wine, while other berries were harvested later in the season to increase sweetness. This wine captures the essence of Vin de Constance and was aged in a combination of 50% new French oak, Hungarian oak and French Acacia barrels." - Anthony Mueller, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Oct 2019)

"The 2015 Vin de Constance is limpid silver-gold in the glass. It has a bouquet of acacia honey, marmalade and pressed yellow flowers, plus a slight adhesive note in the background; I cannot recall a Vin de Constance with such intense aromatics. The palate is viscous on the entry, and a vital bead of acidity lends balance and freshness. This is an all-consuming, multidimensional wine with marmalade and dried quince notes mixed with Moroccan spices toward an unctuous finish that leaves your head spinning. Awesome....." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 93+/100 (Oct 2019)
