About this Item

Anwilka 2005
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Anwilka is a Stellenbosch estate on the Helderberg, founded as a joint venture between the Bordeaux names Bruno Prats and Hubert de Boüard and Klein Constantia, in whose stable it now sits, making a serious Syrah-and-Cabernet-blended red. The 2005 was one of its earliest vintages, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. James Molesworth from Wine Spectator gave it a rating of 90, and Stephen Tanzer from Vinous gave it a rating of 90.

Critics Ratings

"A heady melange of blackcurrant pastille, liquorice and fresh cassis unfolds from the nose. The palate is silky and plush, folding the jammy dark fruit into dark chocolate and baking spices. Rich and polished, but with remarkable freshness, showing the class of the 2005 vintage. For fans of bold, opulent reds. Enjoy comfortably over the next 3-5 years.' - Higgo Jacobs, 92/100 (Aug 2026)

"A polished, modern style, with alluring layers of plum sauce, black forest cake, blueberry, graphite and mocha. The ripe, rounded finish builds nicely, showing latent depth and length. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah." - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Apr 2007)

"(63% cabernet sauvignon and 37% shiraz; a joint project of Bruno Prats, Hubert de Bouard and Klein Constantia's Lowell Jooste) Ruby-red. Aromas of raspberry, currant, licorice and spicy oak. Suave on entry, then broad and fine-grained in the middle, with a sneaky intensity to the flavors of raspberry and spice. A tad medicinal and dry on the back half, finishing with fine tannins and some chocolatey oak." - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2007)
