I’d come to a particular phase of work and was hunting around to something new to involve myself in and did some small drawings on my lap in front of the fire in my studio – it must have been winter. And I did very small drawings, around eight inches by six inches, probably a dozen of them, in two evenings or so.  And then I blew some of them up mechanically to six feet by four or five feet. I can’t remember the exact size. These were what became the Architectonic Series.
