Chablis 2017

Burgundy International - White
About the Session

A fine selection of white Burgundy, spanning the full range of the region's great Chardonnay appellations - from the flinty, mineral wines of Chablis through to the richer, more textured expressions of the Côte de Beaune. Highlights include Grand Cru bottlings from Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, alongside benchmark Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet from names such as Roulot, Coche-Bizouard and Etienne Sauzet. Producers represented range from grower-estates to celebrated négociant houses, offering collectors an excellent cross-section of what white Burgundy does best.

About this Item

Chablis 2017
6 (1 x 6) 750ml
Domaine Pattes Loup is the acclaimed Chablis estate of Thomas Pico, who since 2005 has farmed old family vines around the high village of Courgis organically, and now biodynamically, with strict low yields and native-yeast winemaking. Vent d'Ange, from old vines up to seventy years of age, is his flagship village Chablis, a wine many rate at Premier Cru level. 2017 was a frost-hit but fine Chablis vintage of ripe yet fresh whites. William Kelley from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate gave it a rating of 92, with Allen Meadows also reviewing it for Burghound.com.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Pico's 2017 Chablis Vent d'Ange wafts from the glass with aromas of fresh apple, white flowers and marzipan, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad and satiny palate that's racy but enveloping, with superb cut and definition despite its comparatively broad shoulders and textural profile." - William Kelley, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Aug 2019)

"A ripe and very fresh nose exhibits moderate amounts of Chablis typicity on the white-fleshed fruit aromas. The nicely voluminous and sappy middle weight flavors possess an attractive texture before terminating in a lingering if mildly warm finish." - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (Oct 2019)
