Bachelet-Monnot

Maranges 1er Cru "La Fussière" 2018

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Maranges 1er Cru "La Fussière" 2018
5 (1 x 5) 750ml
Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, run by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet from Dezize-lès-Maranges, is one of the rising names of the southern Côte de Beaune, best known for precise, mineral white Burgundy but also fine reds. La Fussière is the leading Premier Cru of Maranges, at the southern tip of the Côte de Beaune. 2018 was a warm, ripe and generous vintage of plush reds. Jancis Robinson MW gave it 16.5 out of 20, and Neal Martin from Vinous gave it a rating of 92.

Critics Ratings

"Transparent garnet. Good lift and attack on the nose, still with marked acidity but nothing wrong with that, though this wine is probably best left in bottle for a year or two. Confident and well made. Redcurrant fruit and then quite a tannic presence. Definitely serve with food!" - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Jan 2023)

"The 2018 Maranges La Fussières 1er Cru Rouge is perfumed and floral on the nose, crushed rose petals infuse the brambly red berry fruit laced with iodine and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, quite saline in the mouth with a harmonious, almost understated finish." - Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Oct 2020)
