Georges de Vogüé

Musigny Vielles Vignes 2015

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Musigny Vielles Vignes 2015
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the historic, aristocratic estate of Chambolle-Musigny and by far the largest owner of the Musigny Grand Cru. Its Musigny Vieilles Vignes, from the estate’s oldest vines, is one of Burgundy’s most coveted wines, combining power with the silk and perfume for which Chambolle is famous. The 2015 is an outstanding, warm and ripe vintage of rich, concentrated reds.

Critics Ratings

“Brilliant dark crimson. Light gaminess as a top note on real majesty. Polished and very fresh. Sort of struggling not to show off its obvious fruit and to reserve lots of serious stuff. This will make fabulous old bones but there is masses buried underneath. Amazing length.” - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 19/20 (Jan 2017)

“Deep ruby color. A kaleidoscopically spicy and broad-ranging nose grudgingly reveals notes of red cherry, cassis, plum, violet, Asian-style tea, sandalwood and hoisin. The velvety and mouth coating imposingly-scaled and intense mineral-driven flavors are blessed with seemingly endless reserves of dry extract that coat the palate on the highly seductive finish that delivers fantastically good length on the youthfully austere, backward and immaculately well-balanced finale. This opulent yet very serious effort is also going to require a very long snooze in a very cool cellar but it should be a remarkable Musigny when it finally emerges.” - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 97/100 (Jan 2018)

“Tasted blind, the 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru was also showing extremely well, unfurling in the glass with aromas of ripe cherries, rose petal, dark chocolate, licorice and incense, displaying its framing of new oak a little more obviously than when I tasted it a few months ago. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, ample and complete, with a rich chassis of firm but fine tannins, a deep, even dense, core of fruit and a long, lingering finish. Like the Bonnes Mares, this was immediately identifiable as a de Vogüé wine, but it spoke just as eloquently of Musigny.” - William Kelley, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, 96+/100 (Oct 2018)

“The 2015 Musigny Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru has an iridescent purple hue. The showy, very pure, almost glossy bouquet features copious blueberry and black cherry fruit infused with pressed violet petals, all beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, rounded and fleshy in style, perhaps with less structure than Mugnier’s Musigny, but certainly very long, with a tang of blood orange toward the finish.” - Neal Martin, Vinous, 94/100 (Sep 2018)
