Camille Giroud

Santenay 2018

Burgundy International - Red
About the Session

Session 3 is devoted to red Burgundy, drawing together some of the finest terroirs of the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. Grower estates such as Armand Rousseau, Denis Mortet, Denis Bachelet, Georges Lignier and Ghislaine Barthod anchor a run of grand and premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin, Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis and Vosne-Romanée, while a extraordinary group of lots from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including Échézeaux, Grands Échézeaux, Richebourg, La Tâche and Romanée-Saint-Vivant, forms the session's centrepiece. Rounded out by classic bottlings from Volnay, Pommard and Nuits-Saint-Georges, plus a scattering of Beaujolais crus, this session offers exceptional depth for Pinot Noir collectors.

About this Item

Santenay 2018
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
Maison Camille Giroud is a Beaune house founded in 1865 and revived under new ownership in 2002, known for a traditional, age-worthy style drawn from carefully sourced fruit across the Côte d'Or. This is its Santenay, from the southern Côte de Beaune. 2018 was a warm, ripe and generous vintage of plush reds. Neal Martin reviewed it for Vinous and Allen Meadows for Burghound.com.

Critics Ratings

"The 2018 Santenay Village includes 50% whole cluster and is raised in 10% new oak. It has a delicate floral bouquet with scents of pressed rose petals filtering through the cranberry and crushed strawberry fruit. The palate is plump on the entry, very harmonious and already approachable. I appreciate the subtle pepperiness imparted by the stems on the finish. Very fine." - Neal Martin, Vinous (Nov 2019)

"This is aromatically similar to the Clos Voyens but with the addition of a whiff of the sauvage. There is a bit more mid-palate concentration to the delicious and round flavors that flash hints of rusticity and a bit of acid tang on the sneaky long finish." - Allen Meadows, Burghound.com (Apr 2020)
