Quinta de la Rosa

Estate Bottled Vintage Port 2011

Portugal
About the Session

Portugal is represented almost entirely by the Douro Valley, with Niepoort leading the offering. A small but powerful offering of Ports round out the catalogue, with beautifully mature 1985’s from Feuerheerd’s and younger offerings from Grahams, Niepoort and Quinta de la Rosa. Finally, a fifteen year old Madeira Malvasia from Henriques & Henriques offers interest for the discerning buyer.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"A densely tannic wine, firm at the centre and richly fruity on the outside. It is concentrated, with acidity shooting through the jammy black fruit. A finely structured wine, likely to age well, but showing its rich side already." - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 95/100 (Oct 2013)

"A relatively lighter, well-defined bouquet that disguises its spirit well. The palate has a soft, rounded, viscous entry with kirsch, fresh prune and cassis all vying for attention. It lacquers the mouth but does not overpower, and its parting gift is a long sweet molasses-tinged finish. One of the more accessible declarations and a joy." – Mark Squires, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 92/100 (May 2013)
