Rioja Gran Reserva 2005
Spain
About the SessionRioja anchors the Spanish session with a depth and breadth that rewards both traditionalists and modern-style enthusiasts. La Rioja Alta is the most extensively represented producer, with Gran Reserva 904 spanning multiple vintages and formats, alongside the classic Reservas - Viña Ardanza, Viña Alberdi, and Viña Arana. Beyond Rioja, Sierra Cantabria delivers some of the most sought-after names in the sale. Their single-vineyard Amancio across 2002 and 2007, the Finca El Bosque, and the Colección Privada 2003 represent the very top of the Rioja hierarchy.

Critics Ratings
“The 2005 Gran Reserva is a blend of 90% Tempranillo, 8% Graciano and 2% Mazuelo from their own vineyards as well as from grapes purchased from vine growers in the Rioja Alavesa area. They only include fruit from over 80-year-old vines in this wine, which ages for 32 months in oak barrels and another three years in bottle before being released. It is still quite dark and unevolved, showing notes of dark cherries, plums and plenty of spices, hinting at leather and truffles. The palate starts showing classical flavors of aged Rioja and comes through as a powerful traditional wine.” - Luis Gutiérrez, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Dec 2013)
