Italy
About the Session

Italy dominates the auction, led by a considerable depth of Tuscan greats. Fontodi spans the full range of the estate from the benchmark Chianti Classico through multiple vintages of Flaccianello della Pieve, their iconic Sangiovese IGT, to the crown jewel Vigna del Sorbo Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The jewel in the crown of Tuscan reds, Brunello di Montalcino is well represented with offerings from Il Poggione, Casanova di Neri, Silvio Nardi, and the rare Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta. A group of curated Italian Collections rounds out the Italian session, offering mixed selections ideal for those seeking range across multiple producers in a single lot.

About this Item

Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 1990
1 (1 x 1) 750ml
Zenato was founded in 1960 by Sergio and Carla Zenato on the southern shore of Lake Garda, and is today run by their children Alberto and Nadia. Its Amarone comes from the Costalunga estate in Sant’Ambrogio, in the classic heart of Valpolicella, made in the traditional way from Corvina-led grapes dried for several months before a slow winter fermentation and long oak ageing. The 1990 was a great Veneto vintage, and this bottle is now a mature, complex example of the style.

Critics Ratings

“Already displaying some of the exotic, spicy, nutty characteristics typical of maturing Amarone, yet there’s freshness, great balance and depth. Very complex and inviting.” - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Jun 1997)
