About this Item

SK'Windtjiesvlei 2018
2 (1 x 2) 750ml
SK'Windtjiesvlei is AA Badenhorst's single-variety Tinta Barocca, sourced from old dry-farmed bushvines on the Kalmoesfontein farm in the Swartland, vinified with whole-bunch fermentation in open-top vessels and aged in large old oak casks. A grape Adi Badenhorst has described as combining Nebbiolo's structure with Shiraz's fruit, Tinta Barocca in the right hands produces a wine of formidable savoury character and distinctly structured depth. The 2018 vintage in the Swartland drew extraordinary concentration from these well-established dryland vines.

Critics Ratings

‘Easier to drink than it is to spell, let alone pronounce for a non-Afrikaans speaker, this Tinta Barocca is purchased as grapes from a neighbouring farm. Opaque, tannic and typically spicy, rich and brooding, it has flavours of damson, fig and liquorice and some added texture from 10% stems. 2022-30’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 93/100
