About this Item

Trust your Gut 2019
3 (1 x 3) 750ml
Lukas Van Loggerenberg sourced grapes from special vineyards for this blend, which he believes is an excellent example of a wine whose components come together to create something greater than the sum of their individual parts. The label reflects the importance of trusting one's instincts, with each image symbolising intuition and direction. Just as a compass guides a sailor or a bee instinctively knows where to find pollen and make honey, instinct plays a vital role in decision-making. The stamp serves to emphasise the wine's South African heritage.

The 2019 vintage produced a Trust Your Gut of concentrated expression and focused mineral character, the old-vine Chenin Blanc parcels that feed this wine performing with natural intensity in conditions that suited their deep-rooted drought resilience. Van Loggerenberg's 2019 Trust Your Gut Chenin Blanc earned 91 points from Tim Atkin MW and 93 points from Lauren Buzzeo at Wine Enthusiast. Trust Your Gut is Lukas van Loggerenberg's entry point into Cape Chenin Blanc of genuine quality, produced from carefully selected old-vine parcels in the Western Cape, whole-bunch pressed and wild-fermented with restrained handling, a wine of honest varietal expression and approachable complexity at a price that reflects its producer's commitment to making great wine accessible.

Provenance

The late David Brice was a respected wine connoisseur, collector and co-founder of Brice and Burnett – The Fine Wine Specialists (formerly Wine Cellar). His lifelong passion for wine from all corners of the world wine, and generosity, helped develop a culture of fine wine in South Africa and beyond. Always with value and authenticity in mind, the collection spans a wide range of styles from leading producers and diverse regions. The wines were professionally imported under refrigeration and carefully stored at Brice and Burnett (formerly Wine Cellar) thereafter. Many of the producers are not available in South Africa and provide an excellent buying opportunity.

For more detailed information on the lots, please feel free to contact Roland Peens (roland@briceandburnett.co.za). Roland spent many years sharing and enjoying these wines with David Brice and is happy to provide further insight into the collection.

Critics Ratings

"Honest and characterful Cape Chenin Blanc at its most approachable. Van Loggerenberg's Trust Your Gut delivers genuine old-vine quality without pretension." - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 91/100 (Sep 2020)

"A medium-light gold, this wine opens with scents of caramelised leek, dried apple skin, lemon custard and a touch of melon rind. The palate is direct and focused, with a seam of acidity to cut through the rich fruit and spice tones and lend verve and vibrancy to the close. A lovely textural grip unfolds on the midpalate and lingers with interest through the long finish." - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Oct 2022)
